Jon Derek Croteau, Ed.D., is an internationally recognized leader with over 20 years of senior level advancement, leadership, and executive recruitment experience. His unique combination of experiences as a chief advancement officer, leadership consultant, author, teacher, and speaker makes him a thoughtful and thought-provoking consultant to an array of institutions across the globe.

Jon’s work in organizational development, leadership, and talent management at Carnegie Mellon University during its first successful $1B+ campaign was groundbreaking for the division, helping it reach a new level of cross-university and intra-departmental collaboration. He possesses deep experience making successful placements in positions such as President, Provost, Senior Vice Presidents, and Vice Presidents, as well as a wide range of professional, administrative and advancement roles in the education, healthcare, arts and charity arenas.

Jon has authored many books and dozens of articles on advancement leadership and talent management and speaks regularly on the topics of leadership, advising, and campaign management. He has also served as adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon in the H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management and at the University of Rochester’s Warner Graduate School of Education.

Jon’s board work is extensive as well. In his early 20s, Jon co-founded and served as Chairman of The COURAGE Foundation, which he created to help eradicate suicide amongst LGBTQ youth, and led the board in aiding organizations such as GLSEN, The Human Rights Campaign Foundation, and The Massachusetts’ Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth. He has served as Vice Chair of Emerson College's Executive Board of Directors and Vice President of the Emerson College Alumni Association, was on the Board of Ambassadors for The Home for Little Wanderers, and served as a mentor for Point Foundation. Today, he serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council for Boston University’s School of Education.

Jon holds a doctorate from Boston University, a master’s degree from Northwestern University, and a bachelor’s degree from Emerson College (summa cum laude).
