Established in 1930, the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) is dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge driven by curiosity. With Albert Einstein as one of the Institute’s first scientists and scholars, the community has now grown to a core of 30 permanent faculty members and an alumni of more than 8,000 historians, mathematicians, natural scientists and social scientists. Faculty and members include 33 Nobel Laureates, 41 of the 56 Field Medalists, as well as MacArthur Fellows. With a sizable endowment of $780 million, recent gifts to support the work of the Institute include $500,000 awards from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Carnegie Foundation of New York.

The Opportunity

The Senior Director of Principal and Planned Giving will be responsible for identifying, engaging, soliciting and stewarding donors with the capacity to give $1million+ in principal gifts and development and implement a robustplanned giving program. In this newly created position, the Senior Director will be a key member of IAS’s Development and Communications team, creating an infrastructure for the principal and planned giving programs. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Senior Director will also develop foundation fundraising strategies and should have at least five years of experience in major gifts fundraising in higher education or similarly related “think tank” field.
