Fargo, North Dakota

North Dakota State University (NDSU) is distinctive as a student-focused, land-grant, research university, named to the elite “Research University/Very High Research” category by the Carnegie Commission.

NDSU has a longstanding commitment to bringing education and research solutions to the people of North Dakota; NDSU’s access and affordability are exceptional among its peer universities. It combines commitment to students, citizens, and research in a way few nationally top-ranked research university peers do. Its vision for the future is as a vibrant university that will be globally identified as a contemporary metropolitan land-grant institution, reflecting and serving geographically and culturally diverse populations. NDSU also has one of the most successful NCAA Division I athletics programs in the nation, both in terms of student-athlete academic success and the breadth of sports that succeed well into post-season play.

The economic impact of NDSU is far-reaching. Situated in a prosperous state, NDSU is realizing its potential to be one of the most compelling factors changing North Dakota’s future path toward success. Extensive external analysis shows North Dakota State University is a major economic engine for the region and that graduates enjoy a substantial return on their educational investments at NDSU. According to the study, conducted by Economic Modeling Specialists International of Moscow, Idaho, NDSU has an $884 million economic impact annually, which is equivalent to about 1.9 percent of the regional economy.

The Opportunity

To support its continued growth, NDSU seeks a President and Chief Executive Officer to lead the Development Foundation and Alumni Association. The ideal candidate will bring a proven fundraising and capital campaign track record and take the Foundation to a level befitting the University’s NCAA Division I Level ranking. Evidencing integrity and vision, the President/CEO will maximize NDSU partnerships with university staff and trustees as well as the broader community of friends while building productive relationships with current and potential donors – creating “one unity” and a path to success.

The President/CEO works closely with the University President, the Foundation Board of Trustees, and the Association Board of Directors to set a strategic direction for fundraising and alumni relations. The President/CEO is responsible for the development, execution, and evaluation of all aspects of the University’s comprehensive development and alumni programs, including its annual giving, major and leadership giving, corporate and foundation relations, planned giving, donor relations, alumni relations, research and prospect management, and supervision of all campaign activities.

The selected candidate will be responsible for achieving progress on several priorities including but not limited to: effective campaign strategies; donor base and major donor growth; increased fundraising projections; and the maintenance of a strong culture of philanthropy – all in support of the long-term goal of strengthening the University’s ability to fund its educational priorities.
